In response to your klaus debate, I think what happened was he was born a werewolf, died, and became a vampire. After he was a vampire was when he first killed. That's how how can be both.
I'd like to also recommend The Last Vampire series by Christopher Pike. It's young adult so it's written in a more juvenile manner, but the books are great. The main character is a 5000 year old vampire from India. She's the last of her kind, and is a BADASS!!
I've also wrapped up the latest in the Hollows series by Kim Harrison. The main character is a witch with a vampire, and a pixy roommate. Lots of fun.

there is a series of books called the Riley Jenson series by Keri Arthur who is a Werewolf/Vampire hybrid. She is a werewolf first but has vampire talents like she's super fast! Her mother was a werewolf who was raped by a newly formed vampire whose bodily functions still worked so she got pregnant and had Riley and her twin brother. The book series is really good there is a lot of action and it is definitley not for young readers!! There are 9 books in the series and the first one is called Full moon rising!

As for the vampire diaries books there is no hybrid that i can remember but Stefan does go missing at one point (for different reasons) and Elena and Damon go on a road trip together to find him. They become a lot closer during this time together!
Also I thought you might be interested in knowing that in the books the 3 main characters that die are Tyler, Catherine and Klaus!! Klaus is just a badass original vampire in the books, there is nothing werewolfy about him!!

so I watched the Episode about the curse again, to find out, how Klaus could be Vampire and Werwolfe. So Elijah said, that bevor they became vampires, his mother slept with another men, the werwolfe. And then some time later in ther live, the whole familie became vampires.
And about the three death: There were three death in the Episode before the finallly: Jenna, John and Elena (she comes back to live because of this spell, but she died as the sacrifice)
to the Vampire Diaries Books: (SPOILER)
Lauren is right, there is no hybrid, but Caroline get's pregnant from Tyler (Werwolfe, but a real a**hole in the books) And because of that, she transforms into a werwolfe too.
Realy looking forward to next Season, hoping for more Elena and Damon time together. What I could see is, that Elena is searching for Stephen, but Damon is going to help her, and that'S how they spend a lot of alone time together :)
Can't wait for True Blood now, and your thoughts about it.
